In my art I am particularly intrigued by the physiological, psychological as well as social factors of our existence. Trough the media of drawing, sound and video I try to describe and capture the essence of the living.

In my work, I predominantly engage with the media of sound. By means of kinetic sound sculptures and –installations, I seek to express both vitality/vibrancy and transience of life.

My objects seem to be lifeless at first, but then I give them a heartbeat and through this bring them to life. By having designed them in a way that allows them to drum from their inside, my installations start moving or rather dancing to their individual own tunes – a piece of sound / music that was especially composed for them. I compose the drum pieces to fit the objects’ bodies and forms.

As suddenly as a drum piece can convey the vitality of a form through the beginning of its play, it may equally come to a sudden end once it falls silent. The objects swing out lightly until they completely stop moving. For me, hearing a piece of music was always connected on the one hand to life and on the other hand to death. What we hear and experience in one moment, can be gone in the next. The time that passes is made clear to us through the beginning of sound and its fading.

I am particularly fascinated with the ability of sound and music to emotionally touch nearly all human beings. Sound can be moving in the truest sense of the word. Music has the power to intuitively set the human body and its motor functions in motion. In this light, we may sudden- ly feel the sheer desire to dance, or on a long and exhausting hike the mere recalling of a melody, or rhythm can help to keep on walking more lightly. Beat can be a genuine activator.

In my work, I seek to trace and convey different forms that are capable of expressing life, transience, emotion and human movement by means of sound.
